Are you thinking about a web site? People often have many questions about what is involved in having a web site. This page is designed to answer those common questions about what the creation and the upkeep of a web site involves. There are 4 main components to having a website: Now lets get into a little more detail about each of these components. Design & Construction This is the first step to your website, and the biggest! This is where we create the design for your website. We use special computer programs to create graphics, layout the site, and eventually host your site on the internet for the world to see. Next we will need to start adding the content to the pages of your site. Of course, you will need to send it to us. This information can be sent via mail, fax, or email. Photos and graphics must be mailed or emailed. Again, you will be able to view the progress and request changes. There are some additional options available for your website design. We offer custom logo design, special effects, & e-commerce services for an additional cost. I use a great service called Paypal for accepting payments though your website. For more info, go to www.paypal.com Domain Name
Next, your website will need a domain name. Your domain name is your address on the internet. This is what visitors will type in to go to your website. For example, www.yourbusinessname.com There are a number of extensions available for your website, but the .com seems to be the most common. However you may choose another extension such as www.yourbusinessname.net, or www.yourbusinessname.biz Domain names must be registered. This registration is controlled by ICANN, a company that responsible for managing and coordinating the Domain Name System (DNS) to ensure that every address is unique and that all users of the Internet can find all valid addresses. It does this by overseeing the distribution of unique IP addresses and domain names. It also ensures that each domain name maps to the correct IP address. If this is a little confusing, don't worry. It basically means you register your domain with them in that no one else can use your domain while you own it. We handle the domain registration process for you. There is a yearly fee for the registration of domain names, so, we in turn must pass that cost on to you. Domain names must be renewed each year, as the registration is only good for 1 year. Since we handle the registration, the domain name will be owned by us. However, we can change ownership to you at any time. It is easier for us to own it while we are handling your website so that we can upload your webpage to that address. Sometimes the domain name you want might not be available. If that happens, we can try similar versions of the name to find one that is available. Hosting
Hosting is the storing of your website's files on the internet, so that they can be accessed by other computers when going to your domain name. This requires space on the host computer to hold the information. We use a reliable hosting company to host all of our website's, so that your website will always be available to all your visitors. We offer 2 options for hosting your website, so be sure to take a look at the pricing page for more information. Upkeep
After your website is completed, there will be times when you need changes made. Perhaps you are offering a new service, and want to add it to the website. All you need do is send the requested changes to us in writing. We are usually able to get your update finished within a day or so of receiving your request. However we ask that you give us 7 days to complete an update.
